This is my first contribution to the blog. These pictures were taken during the photoworkshop I had with Ray. Please feel free to give me suggestion to improve on my phototaking skills. :) Ray, I am so sorry for taking so long to post. >.>

EDIT: I used a Canon 40D with a 24-70 lens to take this pictures. Btw, I am Diane.

We were given a "theme" to work on. As you
probably can tell, the idea here is Shadow(s).
Ray wanted me to try a more interesting
composition, so tada this shot.

We chanced upon this alley cat as we were heading
towards a staircase at the back of this alley.
It was not afraid of human action at all,
and we took our time here to get a couple of
shots of this cat.
In this picture, I tried a diffent angle, rather
then as straight shot of the cat. It turned out to be
quite interesting, and had become one of my favourite shots.

Another shot of the same alley cat. It was
grooming/resting itself on the cover(?) of the drain.
I wanted to go nearer to it, but there was a hole
directly behind the cat, so I had to make do with
the distance I could go. This picture was a little
bit of an accidental shot. I was trying to composite
the picture in such a way that it seems to be from the
cat's point of view, but my camera was heavy for just
one hand to hold, I accidentally tilted it to the left
instead. So, this came out of it instead. Though it
wasn't what I planned, it is still one of my favourite.

As we walked towards the back of the alley,
we found this group of children playing ball.
I guess it was a party of sorts. Anyway, it took
me a couple of shots to get this one, as the kids
were in constant motion. I had to wait for the
game to reset to get a chance at this shot. The
shadows of the trees were a nice touch to the
picture here.

This shot was taken as the sun was setting. The sun was still very
bright, so as I metered near the sun, the rest of the buildings became
silhouette in comparison. This picture is again one of my favourite
one out of all the photos I have taken. I really liked how the clouds
behind the sun act as a background rather than a distraction from the sun.

This is a photo taken with tunsten white balance.
It seems to give the picture this "cool" look which
I prefer. I like colder pictures to warmer ones.
I feel that it makes one think more. :/
That is just my idea here. >.>

I wanted a shot with the cars' tail light trail,
so Ray told me to position my tripod and wait. >.>
I was annoyed by the unmoving truck at first,
but after comparing it to the one below (my second try)
I prefered this shot a lot more. There was a car which
went from the third lane to the second, therefore
making the road less bare. Also, the ghostly effect
of the human on the pavement makes this photo a
lot more interesting then the next one.

Final shot I am posting here. This is just for
comparison to the previous shot. This shot is
less interesting in my opinion because the first
and second lane of the road is pretty bare. :/
Again, this is just my opinion. >.>

Please feel free to give me suggestion on how to improve my phototaking skills. :) I hope it isn't too wordy. >.>
